Born on 21st December 1921. Educated at Elphinstone High School and College, Bombay and Govt. Law College, Bombay. Enrolled Advocate of the High Court at Bombay (Appellate Side) on 8.10.1946 and of Original Side on 24.2.1948. Practised Commercial, Company and Constitutional cases while at the Bar. Appointed Additional Judge of the High Court of Gujarat from 21.7.1960. Permanent Judge of the High Court from 6.4.1961. Appointed Chief Justice of the High Court of Gujarat from 16.9.1967. Appointed Judge of the Supreme Court on 17.7.1973. Appointed Chief Justice of India on 12.7.1985. Retired on 21.12.1986.
